The table ilustrates the amount of students, coming from abroad, in five countries (USA, UK, Australia, Canada and Germany) in 2010 and 2020. Units are measured in thousands.
Overall, the proportion of international students were significantly increased by 2020. USA was the most popular country for international students to study in both years. Canada recorded the least amount of students in 2010, while Germany was the least popular country in 2020.
In 2010, USA and UK were the top destinations for education by students around the globe (there were 690 thousands international students and 428 thousands respectively). While between the others, Australia led the proportion by 260 thousands of international pupils, followed by Germany (190 thousands), and Canada were in the last position with only 180 thousands.
Although the US continued to lead the record with 950 thousands students in 2020, there was a significant growth in Canada. In the same year, the number of international students there doubled to almost 400 thousands. By contrast, the other three countries only rose less than 200 thousands in the last year (605 thousands students in the UK, 420 thousands in Australia, and 320 thousands in Germany).
