The table chart compares the cost of a cup of coffee in six different cities in Australia between 2010 and 2014.
It is clear that the majority of the cities followed an increasing pattern in the price of coffee throughout the 4-year period, except for Brisbane. Moreover, Melbourne experienced the highest boost in the percentage change in the surveyed chart.
The two cities with the most expensive coffee were Melbourne and Sydney in 2010, at $2.40 and $2.25, respectively. In 2010, Sydney’s citizens had to pay $2.90 for a drink, which was twice the price in Canberra and $0.50 higher than Melbourne. After 4 years, the former still ranked the top position at $3.17, while the latter underwent an increase to $2.90. Although Melbourne’s coffee price ranked second in the researched timescale, it experienced the most significant change in the proportion growth, at 20.8%.
Switching to the remaining cities, one noticeable figure about Brisbane is that the cost of coffee remained the same at $2.25 per cup over the 4-year period. The least change in coffee price after Brisbane was Canberra, with a 6.25% increase, jumping from $1.50 to $1.70. Furthermore, in 2010, Adelaide and Perth had a less pronounced gap, with $1.87 and $2.10, respectively, before the latter’s coffee price boomed to $2.25, equal to Brisbane in 2014.
