The table illustrates the costs of a cup of coffee in six different cities in Australia in 2010 and 2014.
Overall, there was a rise in the price of a cup of coffee in all cities examined, except for Brisbane, which was unchanged over the period. In addition, the figure relating to Sydney was the highest in all five years, but Melbourne saw the most dramatic growth.
In 2010, Sydney citizens had to pay the highest price for a cup of coffee, at $2.9, while the figure for Canberra was the lowest, at only $1.6. Over the next four years, coffee’s prices in Sydney rose gradually by 13.2% to $3.17 in 2014, whereas there was only $0.1 more in the coffee’s cost in Canberra, a rise of 6.25%. The price of a cup of coffee in Perth was $2.1 in 2010, after which it saw a slight increase of 7.1%, reaching $2.25 in 2014.
Regarding the remaining cities, the greatest rise was recorded for Melbourne, which grew from $2.4 in 2010 to $2.9 in 2014, an increase of 20.8%. The coffee prices in Adelaide also experienced a growth of 6.95%, reaching $2 in 2014. In contrast, the figure for Brisbane remained unchanged at $2.25 over the period.
