Overall, China, Germany, India and Singapore were the four nations experiencing an upward trend in their citizens’ amount of savings, whereas that of other countries including Italy, South Korea and the US tended to decrease from 1999 to 2008. In addition, the percentage of savings in India took up the highest rise throughout given period
On the one hand, it can be seen that, people in Singapore in 1999 and 2000 saved up the largest amount of money, accounting for 43,6% and 46.9% of the total GDP. However, this highest proportion was then overtaken by China with 53.2% in 2008. India saw the most dramatic rise at nearly 11% from 23% in 1999 to 33.6% in 2008.
On the other hand, the amount of money saved up in The United State had the lowest rate of only 15.3% and continued to be at the bottom in 2008 with 12.1%. In 1999, South Korea became the second highest country in terms of total savings, yet this percentage dropped to 31.9% in the last year of the period
