The table compares information about participation in four types of activities: reading, animated play, playing, and photography among adult citizens in urban and rural areas, with their percentage changes in 1990 and 2010.
Overall, the proportions in rural areas are marginally higher than those in urban areas. Although participation in reading emerged as the dominant in both areas and years, photography was not popular in urban areas. However, remaining participations, such as animated play and playing, reported somewhat comparable proportions.
Reading especially and playing increased their participation percentages within two decades. The former attendance significantly rose from 61% to 78% in urban areas, while the rural area slightly increased from 71% to 78% in 1990 and 2010. The latter started the period with 21% before dipping to 14%, which was two-thirds of the initial year in urban areas. The rural area stayed at similar proportions within two decades.
The remaining animated play and photography participations, on the other hand, witnessed smaller changes. Animated play in rural areas followed a brief rise; the percentage fell from 18% to 14%. Therefore, the percentage in urban areas remained unchanged at 10% in both periods. In contrast, the proportion increased by 10 percentage points, from 7% to 17% in urban areas; similarly, in rural areas, it rose from 14% to 24% in 1990 and 2010.
