The table compares department stores and online stores in Australia in 2011 based on the number of businesses, profit, sales revenue, and growth rate.
Overall, online stores had higher numbers of businesses, profits, salary revenues, and growth than department stores. However, the most significant difference was in the growth rate, with online stores expanding at twice the rate of department stores.
In terms of the number of businesses, online stores led the market with 368 stores, while there were only 67 department stores. Although the number of online stores was much higher, the difference in profit was quite small. Online stores made AUD 863 million in profit, only a little more than the AUD 807 million earned by department stores.
A similar trend is seen in sales revenue. Online stores made AUD 13,400 million, while department stores reached AUD 12,700 million. The main difference was growth: online stores grew by 6%, which is almost 1.5 times higher than the 4% growth of department stores.
