In 1999, the number of Australian people visiting New Zealand in 1999 was the highest while that of the UK and US were lower, at 400000 and 300000. 150000 Australian people visiting Indonesia, followed by Fiji, Japan and China at 120000, 100000 and 86000 respectively.
In 2009, the number of people from Australia travelling to China was a significant increase by over 214,000 visitors and also became the highest figure in the growth rate at 249%. 257,000 people from Australia went to Fiji, which doubled that in 1999, while the number of Australian visitors coming to Japan and Indonesia at 250,000 and 340,000. There is a slight rise in the number of people travelling to US and UK, at 640,000 and 400,000, which increased 60% and 33% in the growth percentage respectively.
