The table compares the amount of money spent on five categories of consumer goods in Germany and Italy in 2010, measured in pounds.
Overall, spending on cars was the highest in both countries, whereas perfume attracted the least expenditure in Germany and cameras were the least popular category in Italy. In addition, Germany spent more than Italy on most items, with the exceptions of computers and perfume.
German consumers spent £480,000 on cars, which was £60,000 more than the figure for Italy (£420,000). Germany also outspent Italy on books, with expenditures of £390,000 and £310,000 respectively. The largest difference between the two countries was seen in camera purchases, where Germany spent £360,000, compared with only £170,000 in Italy.
By contrast, Italy recorded slightly higher spending on computers, at £370,000, exceeding Germany’s figure of £350,000 by £20,000. Similarly, expenditure on perfume was greater in Italy, reaching £190,000, while German consumers spent the lowest amount of all five categories, at £160,000.
