France spent the largest share overall, at 11.4%, including 8.6% from public funds and 2.8% from private sources. Germany ranked second, with total healthcare expenditure of 9.3%. Of this amount, 7.0% was publicly funded, while 2.3% came from private spending.
The USA allocated 8.6% of its GDP to healthcare, with 6.0% spent publicly and 2.6% privately. Italy recorded a slightly lower total of 7.7%, consisting of 5.3% public and 2.4% private expenditure. Finally, Japan had the lowest figure, at 7.2%, with 5.8% coming from public spending and only 1.4% from private sources. France’s total was 4.2 percentage points higher than Japan’s, the lowest figure.
