The tables compare the sales of Fairtrade-labelled coffee and bananas over 5 years, 1999 and 2004, in five countries of Europe (UK, Switzerland, Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden).
Firstly, in 1999, the sales of coffee in the UK was at 1.5 million Euros, this number increased dramatically to 20 million Euros in 2005. Moreover, in Switzerland, the coffee sales of 3 million Euros in 1999 doubled to 6 million Euros in 2004. In addition to this, over the 5 year period, Denmark and Sweden, each saw a slight rise of 0.2 million Euros while Belgium saw an improvement in sales by 0.7 million Euros.
On the contrary, banana sales were at 15 million Euros in Switzerland in 1999, this number had more than tripled to 47 million Euros in 2004. Besides this, the sales figure in the UK and Belgium saw a leap of 4.5 million Euros and 3.4 million Euros subsequently. However, over the 5 years, sales of bananas in Sweden and Denmark witnessed a dip of 0.8 million Euros and 1.1 million Euros respectively.
Overall, while sales of bananas increased in Switzerland, UK and Belgium and decreased in Sweden and Denmark, coffee sales observed an upward trend in all 5 countries.
