The tables compare Fairtrade-labelled coffee and banana sales in 1999 and 2004 across five European countries.
Overall, coffee sales increased in all nations, most notably in the UK, while banana sales rose substantially in Switzerland, the UK, and Belgium but fell in Sweden and Denmark.
In 1999, coffee sales were highest in Switzerland at €3 million, followed by the UK at €1.5 million. By 2004, the UK saw a dramatic rise to €20 million, becoming the largest market. Sales in Switzerland also doubled to €6 million, while Denmark, Belgium, and Sweden recorded modest increases of between €0.2 and €0.7 million.
As for bananas, Switzerland experienced the most significant surge from €15 million to €47 million. The UK and Belgium also saw notable growth, rising to €5.5 million and €4 million respectively. In contrast to other countries, banana sales declined slightly in Sweden and Denmark, falling to €0.9 million and €0.6 million.
