The table represents potato consumption per head and production in million tonnes by five different countries, namely South and Central America, Africa, North America, Europe, and Asia in 2006.
Overall, it is evident that the average consumption of potatoes was highest in Europe while Asia, along with Europe, were the major producers in the same year.
Firstly, let us look at the consumption of potatoes. Notably, Europe was the country with the highest consumption, that is, 96.1 kg per capita, which is way more than the rest mentioned. Followed by, North America with an average consumption of 57.9 kg. South and Central America as well as Asia, had similar intake which was 23.6 kg and 25.8 kg respectively. Last but not least, we have Africa with an average intake of only 14.1 kg.
Now , we have the production of potatoes. Here, at a glance, it is obvious that both Asia and Europe were the major producers of the vegetable compared to the rest, with 131.2 million Tonnes and 126.3 million tonnes respectively. Moving on, North America produced only 24 million tonnes. Finally, we have the least producers, they are South and Central America and Africa with a production of only 15.6 million tonnes and 16.4 million tonnes correspondingly.
