Overall, Asian countries were by far the largest potatoes producers, while the lowest potatoes yield was recorded in Central & South America. In terms of consumption, Europe topped the list. In contrast, African states registered the lowest number.
Asia led the potatoes production with slightly more than 131 million tonnes, closely followed by European countries with the figure of more than 126 million tonnes. The rest of the regions in the table, including North America, Africa, and Central & South America, recorded considerably low figures, ranging from 15.6 to 24.7 million tonnes.
Regarding the consumption numbers, Europe registered the highest figure with about 96.1 kg per capita. It was far followed by North America with nearly 58 kg per capita. This was double the figures for Asian and South & Central American countries, with 25.8 and 23.6, respectively. Africa was the continent to witness the lowest consumption figure, with a mere 14.1 kg per capita.
