The two diagrams illustrate the structural transformations within the Brightsea Shopping Precinct between 2018 and 2021.
Overall, the shopping center underwent significant modernization, characterized by the partial pedestrianization and greening of the central outdoor area, alongside modifications and expansions of several retail and dining spaces.
In terms of the shops, the bookstore on the far right remained unchanged over the three-year period. Similarly, the pharmacy, opticians, shoe store, and bank maintained their original positions. However, the health food store in the top row was replaced by a bike shop by 2021. On the bottom row, the clothes shop became an empty store, while the adjacent café expanded significantly to the left, completely absorbing the area previously occupied by the fountain.
The central thoroughfare experienced major redevelopments regarding accessibility and environment. In 2018, this area accommodated pedestrians, cyclists, cars, and flower beds from left to right. By 2021, cars were completely banned from the precinct, and the flower beds were removed. Instead, two new green zones with trees were introduced at both ends of the central path. Consequently, the designated spaces for pedestrians and cyclists were shifted toward the middle of the corridor.
