The maps illustrate the layout alterations that took place in Dalton town between 1815 and 2015.
Overall, the area underwent a substantial transformation, primarily characterized by the introduction of extended commercial sectors. These macro-developments effectively reshaped the landscape, with several existing features being replaced or relocated, often at the expense of the forest and the agricultural plots.
Regarding the western side of the town, significant alterations can be observed during the period shown. The Dalton Forest that covered the left side of the town had been demolished completely, in order to make way for different functional sectors. In particular, a group of houses was settled on the left top of the area. While a hospital was constructed right beside it. In addition, there was an industrial zone in the southern part of the region, to the left of the bridge.
Turning to the remaining parts of the map, which comprise the eastern side, additional developments occurred. A school had been constructed in the middle of the eastern Halton town, while houses and bridleways had already been reconstructed and ran around the school at the expense of the Hall Farm, the forest and several grazers. Furthermore, the Dalton Hall was relocated slightly to the North for the Hotel’s erection. Finally, a brand new airport had been introduced on the bank of the Dal River.
