Overall, Asian remained the most populous region in both years, although its proportion slightly decreased. Europe and other regions saw notable declines, while Africa, Latin America, and North America experienced increases in their population shares.
In 1900, Asian account for the largest portion, at 59% of global population. Europe made up a quarter, whislt Africa and others represented 5% each. North America and Latin America contributed 5% and 3%, respectively.
By 2000, Asia’s share had declined slightly to 54%, but it was still dominant. Europe’s share dropped significantly to 14%, whereas Africa’s portion doubled to 10%. Latin America also saw a sharp rise, increasing to 8%. Meanwhile, North America grew modestly to 6%, and the “Others” category disappeared altogether.
