The pie charts compare the sources of electricity in one particular country in 2000 and 2020.
Overall, a coal was by far the most used resource to generate electricity in the first year given, while in 2020 the leadership was already taken by natural gas. It is also worth noting that wind & solar witnessed a significant increase in the percentage of electricity generated, becoming the second.
In 2000, almost half of the whole electricity was produced with coal, although this proportion decreased to a mere 12% in 2020. Nuclear, by contrast, experienced relatively slight drop from 18% to 15%, whereas the category ‘Other’ remained the same in both years – just 2%.
Turning to sources which saw rises by 2020, it is wind & solar which grew the most, from only 1% to a remarkable 27%. Despite this, it was second in 2020, after natural gas, which increased considerably and reached 34% in the final year. Noticeably, the smallest change was seen in hydro power, by 1% from nine to ten percentage units.
