The maps below illustrate the layout of a coastal town called Pentland in 1950 and after renovating in 2007.
Overall, it is appearent that more facilities were added for improving the critizensʼ living such as apartments, park, swimming pool, shops, houses and cinema. Additionally, the main roads were expanded and the sea was developed with the addition of a marina.
In 1950, this coastal area was relatively undeveloped. It was envidenced that there just had a small road to connect two sections of grassland in the both sides of this map. Besides, an industrial area was located in the left-hand side and near to the sea. In another side, there had a car park in the end of the road in the section of grassland.
In the following 57 years, however, the coastal area took several changes in this place. Firstly, the sea was be used to create jobs for dwellers by fishing industry and it also had marina in close to the roads. Furthermore, the main roads were saw a considerable modifications with opening more spaces and divided this area into 4 sections. Looking at the west side, the industrial area and large grassland were replaced by a small park in the corner, a swimming pool combined with multi storey car park. A single cinema was built in an isolated area in the bottom left corner. Regarding in the other hand, there was constructed apartments near the coast for peopleʼs lives. All the section in the bottom – right corner were developed for residential areas only with two rows of houses and a small road in between of them. Nevertheless, many shops were added in near of the roads to convenient for peopleʼs daily lives.
