The two maps below show the comparison of how Dalton city looked in 1815 and 2015.
Overall, it’s remarkable that the town has gone through numerous major changes. It used to be based on farming and agriculture, yet in 2015 it became very filled with modern and industrial buildings.
In 1815 the left side of the city took Dalton Forest, though, in 2015 it was an industrial zone with lots of houses and factories. Old ford which was used to cross the river now is rebuilt as a big bridge. The upper-left side was not used at all in 1815, yet in 200 years there was a contemporary hospital there. The river in the middle
of the city stayed unchanged for 200 years.
In 1815 right from the river there was a main farm of the town, bridleway, and some trees, but for 200 years this part of the city had the greatest number of changes. Instead of the bridleway there was an airport, most trees were chopped and lots of houses were built in their places. In addition, a new school, surrounded by houses, was built. The right side of Dalton had the least number of changes. Some houses were built there and a huge hotel.
