The illustrations provided display the way aluminum cans are being recycled.
Overall, it is a cyclical, 7-step, man-made process that starts with the collection and ends with the cans filled with soft drinks.
The process begins with the collection of used aluminum cans by trucks. They are then transported to a factory, where the machines first clean the cans properly, sort them thoroughly, and then later shred them before they are compressed. Later, the cans are then transported to a smelting machine, where the cans are heated and then further melted down into a liquid state.
The molten liquid is then rolled into aluminum strips, that are 2.5 mm wide and 6 mm thick. Finally, they are then transferred to a molding machine where the aluminum rolls are shaped into cans and then filled with soft drinks before being sold to customers. The process starts once again. Around 74 % of the cans are reused in the UK.
