The following illustration represents a map of Garlsdon, showing various regions such as: Countryside, Town Centre, Housing and Industry in a colour coded laylout along with potential suggestions of sites for the new supermarket.
Overall, it is evident that site S2 is situated in a more populated area as it is suggested to be in the town centre which is also surrounded by an area of housing. In contrast, site S1 is placed further away from a populous area and could potentially be built in the countryside.
Site S1 is more rural, as it is further away from the Town Centre which could improve accessability for individuals living further away from the town centre, another advantage from choosing site S1, unlike site S2, it is closer to the neighbouring town of Hindson. Site S1 also has access to the main road and the railway but despite these advantages, choosing site S1 still poses a disadvantage due to the distance, especially for those living near the town centre or further away, such as Brandson or Cransdon.
Site S2 on the other hand is found within the Town Centre. If the supermarket is built here, it will provide easy access to consumers living within the housing area surrounding the town centre or for those coming from a distance, as they can travel via the main road or the railway. The major disadvantage of site S2, is that it is within close proximity to industrial sites, which could be a point of complaint for residents and shoppers due to potential noise pollution.
