Dear Mr and Mrs Collins,
Hope you are doing fine. I am so glad that you have decided to have a surprise party for Chris. Unfortunately, I have my final exam of my degree on the same day and I will not be able to make to the function.
I remember Chris was talking about having a big bash for his upcoming birthday and I am sure he will have a great time with the party that you have organized. After Covid pandemic he could not have proper family gathering due to travel restrictions and this party can bring everyone much home. Therefore, I have no doubt that he will enjoy this celebration.
My degree is also reaching to an end and I have English final exam scheduled on the same day. I tried to reschedule the date by contacting the academic department but since it is an in-class exam, they are unable to postpone.
I know this is heartbreaking as I also had high hopes to have a wonderful day on Chris’s birthday and here I am stuck with all books and exams.
However, after the exam, I am totally free and I plan to meet him one week after his birthday. I already booked my air tickets and keeping it as a secret from Chris to surprise him. I know for sure that he will be disappointed to not to see me on his birthday and I wish to surprise him by coming one week after. I made some arrangements at a restaurant near to your house which I visited last time, so that we can go for a peaceful drink. I heard that they have improved a lot with their menus and some live food stations are there to enjoy.
Please forgive me for not being able to attend this wonderful surprise party and I wish it goes well from all my heart. Please write to me if you need anything from Sri Lanka. I look forward to hearing from you.
Yours sincerely,
Shanika Wewalwala
