The graph below shows the average number of American passengers who travel each day by car, bus and train from 1980 to 2040.

Overall, use of cars had the highest numbers over the period given, despite falling to lower numbers of people in the middle of the period. Trains developed with a little decrease during these years, but it rose, while use of bus every year has been less. The peak of buses was in the beginning of period.

In 1980, around 6 million people commuted by car, slightly more than train users at 5 million. Bus commuters accounted for about 4 million. Over time, the number of car users rose, with significant increase from 2010 to 2020, reaching 9 million by 2040. Meanwhile, bus usage declined to 2 million by 2040. Train travels experienced some fluctuations, but it rose from 5 million in 1980 to 7 million in 2040, changes of 2 million over the entire period.

In conclusion, car and train travels is projected to rise in the future, while buses are losing their popularity and people’s interest.
