The presented bar chart gives information about the percentage of interest in six different sports among residents in the UK in three distinct years, namely 1995, 2000, and 2005.
Overall, a discernible upward trend was observed in the proportion of football, swimming, and rugby, while golf, snooker, and tennis witnessed an inverse pattern. Notably, football remained the most popular sport, exhibiting a significant figure compared to the others during the surveyed period.
Looking first at the growing trend, in 1995, 40% of people in the UK were keen on football, which nearly doubled the figures for swimming and rugby, both recorded at around 23%. After a decade, these three sports experienced a minimal growth of about 5% each, with football holding its first position in terms of popularity.
Regarding the declining trend, initially, snooker and tennis gained relatively high popularity, with their percentage standing at around 30%. In contrast, only 18% of people stated golf as their favorite sport. Subsequently, snooker and tennis witnessed a considerable drop, each ending at over one-fifth of the population in 2005, whereas the percentage of golf decreased slightly to 16%, which was still the least-preferred sport.
