The three given diagrams illustrate the location of a volcano on a small island, and the transformation of a village before and after the volcano erupted.
Overall, it can be seen that the volcano caused serious damage to the part of the village nearest the volcano, while the opposite end was less affected. The most significant changes were the disappearance of the large lake and the loss of most of the houses in the center of the island.
Looking first at the left side of the island, before the volcanic eruption, there was a volcano at one end of the island, and a large lake lay in the center surrounded by ten houses and several palm trees. After the eruption, the volcano had split open, and the lava flowed from it all the way to the center of the island. As a result, the lake had been buried under lava, and only four of the ten houses had survived. The palm trees around the volcano had also disappeared.
As for the right side of the island, before the eruption, there was a small lake with eight houses and some palm trees around. After the volcanic eruption, the number of houses decreased by three, and the number of palm trees had remained unchanged.
