Dear Steve,

I am writing to inform you that I will not be able to attend the interview scheduled on May 25th. I am still excited about this opportunity and would kindly like to ask if we can schedule an interview in the first week of June.

I am urgently having to go back to my hometown in India due to a family emergency. Currently, I have limited knowledge about the situation there and so cannot assure you if I will be able to make it back before May 25th. I am hoping everything will be resolved by the end of May so I request that we postpone the interview in the first week of June. This will give me ample time to prepare for the interview after I return back to Canada.

I hope you understand my situation and allow me to interview with you at a later date. I believe that I am an ideal candidate for this position with my skills and experience. I am truly excited about this opportunity and would greatly appreciate it if you consider my request. I will update you about my situation in a timely manner.
