I’m really sorry that I wasn’t able to meet you at the airport as planned. I know you must have been tired after your flight, and I feel terrible for not being there to welcome you properly.

Unfortunately, there was a serious traffic accident on the highway on my way to the airport. The road was completely blocked for over an hour, and despite leaving home early, I was stuck in traffic with no way to move forward. I tried calling you several times, but I assume you were already on the plane at that time.

To make up for it, I would love to take you out for dinner at your favorite restaurant this weekend. I can also spend the whole day with you and show you around the city if you’d like. Please let me know what you prefer – I really want to make it up to you.
