In recent years, the government has strove to reduce traffic congestion by imposing tax during rush hours. Although congestion taxes may place an additional financial burden on commuters, I still believe that it is a positive development because it can alleviate traffic and reduce air pollution.
On the one hand, higher cost of congestion charges for drivers would have some problems. One of the main drawback of this modern phenomenon is financial burden which would be more challenging for people who are on a tight budget. If responsible bodies put an additional traffic charges on driving, drivers might face financial difficulties, especially, unemployed people.
On the other hand, there are some benefits of imposing a congestion. To begin with, higher cost during rush hours encourages people to travel at different times or use public transport. As a result, people can have chance to go to the places that plan in advance such as having picnic with friends or visit national parks. Furthermore, , fewer cars on roads means lower vehicle emissions, thereby improving urban air quality. For example, a congestion charge can discourage people from using private cars during rush hour. Finally, by encouraging the use of public transport, individuals can switch to trains, buses, cycling or walking. Consequently, it would be more beneficial for their overall wellbeing which can give them opportunity to escape from hectic.
To conclude, while the extra burden on commuters are found a main disadvantage of imposing congestion tax, I argue that its advantages would be more practical including ease traffic congestion, improve air quality and promote sustainable transportation, for both people and the environment
