In this contemporary world, there are diverse methods to treat diseases, which include the use of surgery, drugs, tiny amount of poisons and so forth. Despite the type of approach being utilized, patients’ mental attitude plays a cruicial role. The extent to which patients are confident in their recovery and methods employed by the doctors can accelerate the process which was clearly proven via placebo phenomenon.
In an attempt to examine how patients’ mental state influences the effectiveness of a drug, any sort of medical tradition in general, a team of scientists conducted an experiment where they distributed 2 different pills to 2 groups of people with flu: first group was given a real medicine targeted to treat flu, second group was given a pill which has no effect. However, both groups of people were said to be given an effective drug. After a week, patients were checked for the outcome. Surprizingly, the number of people who recovered was almost equal in both groups suggesting that the confidence indeed has a bearing on treatment. Scientists named it a placebo effect.
Aside from the placebo theory, the communication between the doctor and an ill person can determine how useful the prescriptions or any other method will be. When a person is supported emotionally, he will be more likely to overcome the illness. Full awareness provided by the doctor might also assist patients in considering the long term symtomps, commitments he will have to have to recover.
Overall, as shown by the placebo effect, mental attitude of patients can determine how effective medical methods will be. Communication with doctors, mental support from them can ease recovery as well.
