A lot of people around the world know encourage the development of reading skills among children. However, they argue about whether the academic reading is more beneficial than the fun reading. In my opinion a good balance between the two will give the best results.
In the first view, people believe children should exclusively be reading academic books. And the reason for that is, first of all, to enrich their knowledge which in turn will better their school grades. For instance, when they read about the materials and their properties, they will be able to understand science more. Second of all, this type of reading will prepare them more for the world, as they would know the main issues of the world and be aware of them. For example, when the kids read about pollution they will become more environmental. Although these benefits are significant, But adding some fun to reading will even benefit them more.
On the other side, people say entertaining reading have the same level of importance. That’s because, fun reading will even develop more skills to these kids. That’s because when adding some excitement and suspense to their reading they will be motivated to read more which will make them love reading more, and they might think about writing afterwards. In addition to that, when they read about a beautiful place or even a description of some people, their brain will try to imagine these pictures which will stimulate their imagination. Therefore, the advantages of combining the two types of reading outweighs the advantages of limiting the kids with only type.
In conclusion, parents should not forget the importance of encouraging their kids of mixing the academic reading along with the fun reading. Because as much as the theoretical material is beneficial, with the addition of the fun side the results will be even more powerful.
