Numerous graduate programs need students to undertake a period of unpaid work with an arts institution or organization as a part of their academic coursework. While this method brings up several downsides, as an experienced one, I reckon that advantages are indispensable.
On the one hand, engaging in work breft of any payment could be fruitful experience for youngsters. First and foremost they attain practical experience while developing their hard and soft skills. Graduates gain hands-on experience in their field, applying theoretical knowledge to real-world settings. This experience makes them more competitive in the global labor market with enhancing both occupation and interpersonal skills. In addition to this, students can showcase this type of unpaid jobs, such as volunteering, participating in workshops, forums and internships can contribute to their resume which will open door to better career prospects in future. A strong portfolio demonstrates HR team that this individual applied his/her knowledge in real worlds and possess to multiple accomplishments related to his/her field.
On the other hand, taking part In unpaid works can bring deleterious effects for graduates. Firstly, it my impose financial burden on students at early ages. Unpaid positions may not to be easy-to-reach to those who need revenue to meet their daily expenses during their studies. Thus, this requirement could affect students detrimentally from poor socio-economic backgrounds. Furthermore, it can affect academic achievements of students tremendously. Balancing unpaid employment while trying to catch up with the material of coursework can be overwhelming for students. As a result, engaging unpaid employment a lot can impact their overall performance during the education year.
From my side, I was participated in volunteering program just after finishing my high-school education. In order to spend my summertime extent beneficially, I allocate my two moths : June and July this year to work in ASAN Service Center 6 and ASAN Communal Center 3. During my volunteering experience, I did not obtain any money, whereas I gained a lot of friend and unforgettable memories while being a piece of governmental services. A certificate from these organizations will contribute to my resume in future, thus I am very grateful to me that I spend my spare time to do necessary issues.
To conclude, having discussed the pros and cons of working without any payment in arts institution and organizations and my own experience above, I am of the opinion that while it has several drawbacks, benefits of this method are more pivotal.
