In recent years, the issue regarding state-funded education has become more debatable. Some people argue that free education is the fundamental right of every individual and should be provided by the government, whereas I totally disagree with this statement. I would like to state the reasons behind my disagreement in this essay.
Apparently, there are some reasons to substantiate why the free education system is to be opposed. Primarily, if the government provides education without charging a single penny, it would cause a financial burden on it. The reason is that when the government invests its entire fund to provide free education, it will be left with no money and will then start to raise money from other resources. To cite an example, to raise its funds again, the government will charge higher taxes from the citizens. Still, this policy would not work for a long time because of limited resources, and it could lead to a decline in the quality of education. Consequently, it will weaken the economy and instability would affect the country’s GDP.
Furthermore, students who receive free education through this policy would not value it. As a matter of fact, something that is free of charge is not worth as much as something that is expensive and has some additional costs. For instance, if study is free, students might not take it seriously or feel motivated to pursue it. Moreover, they will not understand the importance of education that they would if they were paying for it themselves. Lastly, this idea may not encourage them to do hard work and to take their responsibilities seriously.
To conclude, after analyzing different aspects, it can be stated that although promoting this idea of free education is the fundamental right of every person, I believe that it should be free for everybody as it would result in the decline of quality education.
