Most people believe that sporting facilicities and other local community requirements should be fullfilled by businesses running on large-scale. There might be downsides to this arguement such as companies may not find it cost-effective and community requirements can be initiated through other means. Therefore, I disagree with this arguement and this essay presents the reasons.
Firstly, the most compelling reason is that private companies might experience a loss of profit as its unrelated to business ventures. Community requirements are outside the scope of the business therefore the profit has to be utilized by employees in a company and for the better development of their business. Subsequently, spending on the community is unfair for in-house workers. For example, a software engineer may put in hours of hardwork only to find that his wage is fractioned for the communities need for a badminton court.
Secondly, another reason to consider is that community needs may be faciltated through community service or local clubs. Funds for facility constructions could be raised through donations which can also be utilised for starting a small-scale business where the profits can be used for the advantage of the community. Additionally, it provides an opportunity for people to volunteer if interested which allows individuals to socialise and work together. For instance, research finds that around 98% of participants of community service were volunteers.
To conclude, I completely disagree with the statement that large businesses owe the community to provide them with various facilities because its out of scope for companies to provide such funding and there are other ways of enhancing the local community needs such as through community service. It is recommended that people should practice to not rely on businesses and instead use community service for local needs.
