It is undeniable that artificial intelligence has become increasingly common in workplaces, thereby sparking an ongoing debate over whether it can bring outstanding advancements or detrimental effects. This essay will examine both views before presenting my personal perspective.
Undoubtedly, since the rise of artificial intelligence, individuals can have access to a wide range of career opportunities. Even barriers related to in-depth knowledge and geographical location have been gradually narrowed. This is evident in sectors such as education, Al tools support for designing digital lessons and personalized learning paths according to users’ needs, making learning become easier and less tedious. Another prominent benefit is its high productivity; AI allows employees to handle a large number of tasks simultaneously, thereby saving time and boosting work efficiency. Moreover, AI also helps minimize operational errors caused by humans, increasing accuracy and diminishing potential risks. This is clear in the fields of accounting and finance, where it reduces errors in report generation, interest/tax calculations, avoiding financial discrepancies.
Despite aforementioned advantages, the appearance of Al can also pose several drawbacks to the job market. Firstly, many jobs require repetitive tasks such as data entry, customer-response handling, which can be easily automated by Al systems. Therefore, some employees may face reduced working hours or even unemployment. Additionally, due to the convenience of Al, individuals become overly dependent on technology and available documents instead of creating new ideas by themselves. Over time, this habit may weaken critical thinking and problem-solving skills, making it hard for people when adapting to new changes in job requirements. Last but not least, many sectors still need human interaction, creativity and empathy. Teaching is a salient example, as it not only requires specialized knowledge but also communication and collaboration between teachers and students, contributing to creating a well-rounded education.
In conclusion, although the growth of AI may lead to job displacement, overdependence on technology and lack of human qualities, its unparalleled convenience in terms of opening abundance job prospects, enhancing productivity and reducing human errors can outweigh its drawbacks. Ultimately, I firmly believe that whether Al is beneficial or harmful totally depends on human intention.
