It is commonly believed that the growing use of artificial intelligence technology in the workplace can have negative consequences for employees. I strongly agree with this statement, as the increase in the use of artificial intelligence technology in the workplace undermines the creativity of employees and sometimes employees are prone to lose their job because of AI.
Firstly, the use of AI technology in the workplace will cause a negative impact on employees because employees may lose their creativity due to the increasing use of artificial intelligence technology. Although artificial intelligence is beneficial for many offices and employees to ease their work, there will be a risk that employees lose their own skills such as problem-solving and critical thinking. Many artificial intelligence tools are designed to solve problems more quickly than humans. Moreover, employees are often eager to utilize these tools instead of their own skills because it is easy and fast. Hence, excessive use of artificial intelligence technology will undermine the creativity of employees, and they become too reliant on AI.For instance, there is a built-in AI tool, namely called Copilot, in text editors such as Visual Studio Code for software engineers, which will automatically write and correct the code. However, this tool is beneficial for engineers to improve efficiency, but engineers will lose their ability to write code independently and troubleshoot errors in their code.
Secondly, many organizations are adopting artificial intelligence technologies as replacements for their employees because these tools take less time to perform tasks and some tools are cheaper than a human workforce. Hence, employees are always prone to lose their jobs due to artificial intelligence. The widespread use of artificial intelligence technology will eliminate many roles such as customer service representatives and social media managers. Additionally, artificial intelligence technology is responsible for eliminating many entry-level jobs in information technology fields and other fields.For example, many companies in Nepal have adopted artificial intelligence agents and AI automation tools to manage their social media marketing by replacing their social media managers.
In conclusion, the extreme use of artificial intelligence technology in the workplace will have negative effects on employees, as employees lose their creativity and many employees are at risk of losing their job because of these technologies.
