One main reason for this is convinence.Online news is easily accessible through smartphones,tablets and laptops at any time and from any location. People no longer need to wait for the morning paper because they can receive live updates instantly. For example,during major global events such as Covid 19 pandemic,most individuals relied on online news websites and social media for real-time information.This demonstrates that internet provides faster and more efficient news coverage than traditional newspapers.
Another significant factor is cost and environmental impact. Many news websites are free, whereas newspapers must be purchased daily , which can become expensive over time . Furthermore the production of newspapers requires large amounts of papers , contributing to deforestation and environmental damage.In contrast, digital news reduces paper waste and is therefore more environmentally friendly.
However ,some people argue that printed newspapers are more reliable and trustworthy as they are usually published by established organisations and undergo editorial checks . While this may be true to some extent , many reputable newspapers now operates online platforms as well .For instance internationally recognised newspapers such as ‘The guardian’ and ‘The New York Times ‘ have strong digital presence, proving that credibility is not limited to print format .
In conclusion, although newspapers still have loyal readers, I believe that online news has become the dominant and most important source of information due to its convinenece, affordablility and speed . Therefore , newspapers are unlikely to remain the promar Source of news in the long term .
