Band 8+: An increasing number of people are choosing to have cosmetic surgery in order to improve their appearance. Why do people have operations to change the way they look? Do you think this is a positive or negative development?

Nowadays, aesthetic procedures are booming, and more and more people are inclined toward getting them to elevate their looks. In my opinion, this growth can be advantageous or disadvantageous at times. This essay will discuss both the positives and negatives of these surgeries, as well as the reasons why people might want to perform them, in the forthcoming paragraphs.

Individuals wanting to change their outer looks may have several reasons. One cause is excessive exposure to unrealistic beauty standards by social media sites like Instagram, YouTube, etc. People see videos of fashion models and beauty influencers online and begin to dream of having skin or a body like theirs, which forces them to consider cosmetic procedures. Secondly, some people are criticized by their family and friends in the form of sarcastic comments about their appearance, which might influence them to change themselves. Lastly, there can be some medical issues which may need alteration of the body.

There are a few advantages of beauty enhancement procedures. These can give a meaningful life back to a person whose face or body is affected by some trauma or an accident. Additionally, these surgeries are also proof of scientific development to a certain extent, where anybody can change the way they appear, which may add to the revenue of medical science and surgeons. On the other hand, disadvantages also exist. These operations can be dangerous and life-risking at some points because a few of them might include harmful post-operation complications; a buttocks lift is one of them. Furthermore, looking at beautified faces can also develop a sense of self-consciousness among people.

To conclude, these surgeries have their negatives and positives. However, in my perspective, the disadvantages outweigh the advantages because it is not worth risking one’s life in the name of beauty enhancement unless it is very necessary. One could get depressed and self-conscious about these delusional beauty standards. Embracing natural appearance needs to be promoted more.
