As a matter of fact, the access and affordability of technology give rise to the number of users opting for distance learning and working. From my perspective, this is a negative trend due to its negative impact on productivity and limited availability to the underprivileged.
A glaring weakness of this novel method is the lack of interaction and monitor, resulting in the shrink in the general productivity. It is undeniable that this is accompanied with the long period of staring at the computer screen, which is scientifically proven to cause sleepiness and eye strain. These exert a negative impact on the users’ concentration, diminishing their comprehension. What is more, students or employees may do their private work or browse over the social media without the monitor of teachers and managers, ultimately becoming their distraction. Otherwise, the face-to-face interaction may boost the attendees’ spirit whilst lecturers or meeting holders are liable to lighten the atmosphere on time if noticing the distraction among them.
In terms of availability, working from home or distance learning fails to maintain its application among some specialized domains and individuals. Firstly, multiple courses focusing on practice such as presentation is nearly impossible to be conducted online due to its dearth of facial expression, gesture and body language; similarly, manual works like construction cannot gain the ege of the Internet.It is worth considering that the supporters of this novel method may state its flexibility to justify the change. It is true that the Internet’s involvement in education and business allows users to stay at home and save commuting time, helping those with family burdens flexibly choose their working time. However, this edge is only available for those with electronic devices. It is true that these tools are liable to be beyond the financial capacity of some below poverty line. In other words, not everyone has the condition to gain the advantage of this unconventional approach.
In conclusion, I am strongly convinced that utilizing the Internet to change the working and learning nature is a negative development because it may diminish the quality and cause discrimination in users regarding their financial condition.
