The chart shows the cost of clothing (per-kilometre) imported from various countries into the European Union in the years 1993 and 2003.
Overall, it is seen that importing fabric from Argentina and Brazil was expensive as compared to China, India and Bangladesh in 1993, while Japan was moderately priced.
Over the span of 10 years, this trend has changed slightly. In 2003, Argentina and Brazil remained the most expensive countries to import clothing from. China had taken Japan’s spot and India had levelled Japan in the cost per kilometre. All the while, Bangladesh remained the cheapest country to import fabric from. There has been a decrease in the price of clothing imported from Argentina and Japan from 1993 to 2003, both falling by a couple of pounds each. Brazil maintained the same price and is the only country to do so.
China, India and Bangladesh have a higher cost per kilometre in 2003 as compared to 1993 with China showing the most significant increase of up to 7 pounds followed by India at roughly a 5 pounds increase and Bangladesh by a couple of pounds.
