Over the last decade, online education has become ubiquitous, especially among secondary school students. It is believed that going to school is more beneficial than being homeschooled. In this essay I’ll prove my opinion and illustrate examples from my personal experience.
Out of all the arguments, the strongest one to justify my position has to be lack of communication with peers while studying online. It’s undeniable that in school students spend most of their time among classmates: accomplishing various academic group projects, having conversations during breaks, interacting actively throughout the day, while homeschoolers mainly have one-to-one classes. Communicating frequently with people of the same age develops emotional intelligence and fosters essential transferable skills, such as teamwork, organisation and problem solving. However, studying at home doesn’t necessarily mean having no interaction with peers. Home learners have a myriad of opportunities to cultivate significant interpersonal skills while interacting with family, attending extra interest-based clubs, or even communicating with online friends.
Another compelling argument in support of this view is lack of physical facilities. While traditional institutions are equipped with science laboratories and sports facilities, online schools can not offer subject-specific instrumentation, which limits acquiring solid practical knowledge. Therefore, homeschoolers tend to be less prepared for tertiary education and job, where working knowledge serves as a foundation for success. Despite this, home education grants student-athletes or highly specialized young scholars the scheduling flexibility required to dedicate maximum effort to their professional pursuits.
In conclusion, although home education may offer learners ability to alter the timetable to maximize studying efficiency for meeting their personal aspirations, I firmly believe that traditional learning is a far more effective option for young scholars. Schools equips students with both soft and hard skills required for future life.
