Band 5+: Before buying a product or service, many people now read online reviews and ratings written by other customers. Is this a positive or negative development? Give reasons for your answer and include any relevant examples from your own knowledge or experience.

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

In this modern era, online reviws and ratings are become standard for purchasing a product and people check the ratings and reviews of the product or service before making a decision to purchase the product or service. Although it help reduce the risk of scam and helps make informed decision, but in this competetive market companies use illegal starategies to get good reviews.

First focusing towards the positive aspects of this trend, it helps individual to make informed decision regarding the purchase. In simple words, reviews and ratings reveal the quality of the product. It helps the individual about the quality, quantity and estimates related to the life expectancy of the commodity. As a consequence, it help the individual to get true information about the merchandise from an individual who experiened it. Furthermore, this help reduce the risk of scam. In other words, sometime companies exaggerate their product qualities and actual product is differ from the quality of the mentioned description. So, in this case people who already ordered the item gave his honest review and help others to prevent the scams of the companies.

On the other hand, due to extreme competition in the market companies use illegal methods to scam the customers. To be more precise, manufacturers ask few population to buy their product and provide a fake review for their good or service. This influce the customers who are interested in purchasing the product and also affect the overall ratings.

In conclusion, I maintain that while ratings and reviws express the quality and provide the true information about the product but due to extreme competition companies use unauthorized practices to grow their ratings and reviews which manipulates the consumer.
