In contemporary society, historical constructures have significant meanings. Whether people should always maintain and protect them or not has become a heated debate. Although some may argue that they do, I strongly disagree with this viewpoint and insist that not all of the old biuldings or monuments should be steadily saved.
Admittedly, many ancient biuldings have an educational merit. For example, there sit a group of historical houses and palaces in Shenyang, my hometown that used to be the capital of Qing dynasty. By visiting these architectures, the youth can learn how their ancestors ate, slept, fought and how those lifestyles changed as time went by. However, it is not to say that every biulding biult in the past deserves to exist til now.
It is true that urban designing for modern cities has to clean a certain area, which could inevitably force citizens to face the dilemma between development and preservation. In fact, comparing those with history but without uniqueness or safe construction, new biuldings designed to accomodate thousands of people with electric devices like air conditioners or illumination systems serve to be definitely better. Therefore, low-valued architectures has the neccessity to be replaced by modernized ones.
Furthermore, monuments or any biulding with a function of political propoganda, including those in the countryside, might spread a outdated and negative value to young people. In ancient eras, ancestors lived in a more primitive and brutal society, it had been a crucial education that children should obey any order of their parents to stay cohesive and inherit resources, leading to various monuments with related poems or songs. Nevertheless, in contemporary values, it is love, but not bowing down, that children should give to their parents, so monuments promoting unsatisfied values can be removed.
In conclusion, while many historical biuldings should be preserved, some of them should not because of city development and modern education. Blindly protecting anything old could be a burden. Only by devoting to serve people’s real need of living standard can humans develop their civilizations.
