Band 7+: Car ownership has increased so rapidly over the past thirty years that in many cities around the world there are constant traffic jams. How true do you think this statement is? What measures can governments take to discourage people from owning cars?

Note: Both the topic and the essay were created by one of our users.

Car ownership has increased quickly in many cities over the last thirty years, which has caused traffic jams in some areas. I believe this is true because vehicles are more affordable and there are more taxis. Governments can also take steps to reduce car use, such as improving public transport and increasing car prices.

One reason traffic jams happen is that cars are now more affordable. Many people can buy their own vehicles, which increases the number of cars on the road. Another reason is that there are more taxis and ride‑hailing services. These extra vehicles add to traffic, especially during busy hours, making congestion a common problem in some cities.

Body Paragraph 2 (Government measures / 2 solutions):

Governments can take several steps to reduce car ownership. First, they can develop public transport by adding more buses, trains, and bike lanes. This makes it easier for people to travel without using a car. Second, governments can increase the price of cars or make parking more expensive. This encourages people to think twice before buying a private vehicle. These measures can help reduce traffic and make cities cleaner and safer.

In conclusion, traffic jams are common in many cities because cars are more affordable and there are more taxis. Governments can reduce traffic by improving public transport and increasing car costs, which will make life in cities easier for everyone.
