Although these days watching television is not as popular among youth as it was a few decades ago, for many parents the negative impact of television and social media is still the subject of concern. I agree to some extent with this opinion because on one hand there is as a lot of a harmful information, but on the other hand there is also useful information and in my view, parents need to help their children to identify it.
Nowadays, there is a lot of aggressive information on television and the Internet. For example, every time when modern people turn on the TV or start scrolling their news feeds, they can experience a range of emotions, that are difficult to cope with for even adults, let alone children. Another problem is that it can cause health problems. For example, girls of my generation started following harmful diets at the age of 10 in order to be slim like models on TV shows. As a result, for many of them it has led to serious health problems. In my view, if parents don’t pay attention to the content that their children watch, it can have negative consequences.
However, it is impossible to protect children from external news and trends, and the only thing that can help children to avoid negative effects is parental care and education. Parents need to explain to their children about the dangerous of certain trend and direct children’s interes to useful content that helps to expand knowledge about the world. For example, there are various shows about significant inventions, species of animals and pieces of art on television and the internet. But on top of that, parents should control their children’s screen time and not shift the upbringing of their children to ertantainment shows.
If parents speak with their children regularly and take an interest in their lives, children are less likely to be misled by the doubtful information.
