In today’s world, tests have become an essential part of the curriculum in every educational institution. It is believed that the young generation ought to take more and more exams. I would like to discuss both its benefits and drawbacks in this essay.
On the one hand, generally making children attend examinations has numerous significant advantages. In fact, it is widely considered an effective way to review theories students accumulated at school. Therefore, teachers and lecturers could identify exactly pupil’s level, accounting for why entrance exams are the primary method to recruit students of almost universities, for instance. From my perspective, tests are actually a valuable challenge for young people. I think that sometimes they need to overcome difficulties in the learning process, which can encourage them to perform the best effort and get high scores.
On the other hand, I would like to mention the pressure as the first disadvantage of doing tests. Currently, a large number of undergraduates are experiencing mental stress from their families in terms of passing the examinations with a desirable result. A plethora of parents want their children to become the dominant in the class, leading to a consequence that pupils study all day and not have enough time to relax and recharge their batteries. Besides, forcing scholars to take the exam is reported to be a reason for cheating, as several people find it impossible to get a positive score by their ability, and they decide to bring documents or see their friend’s paper for the answers.
In conclusion, obviously doing exams has both upside and downsides, like two sides of the coin. I would say that examinations help check children’s knowledge and be a motivation for them to try hard, whereas they can cause pressure as well as negative behaviors like cheating.
