Children in primary school are starting to learn how to use computers. However, I disagree that there is a danger if IT skills are being taught at the expense of more basic skills. In this essay, I will explain my perspective about it.
To begin with, golden age refers to the stage of children where they have the tendency of being curious with their surrounding or certain knowledge. At this level, it is necessary to give them the opportunity to learn as many as they want with guiding from their teacher. Moreover, leading them to focussing on learning a certain skill such an IT skill could hinder their interest in other subjects. While the other subjects like Nature Science, Economics, Maths, and Social Science are also vital to study at young age. To add more, these subjects also can assist them in the world of work or life where they need certain skills to deal with the issues occured in future.
In addition, I think that IT skills actually do not have to be a main subject, it can be an extracurricular at school. The subject will be an optional class for students. Furthermore, even though the IT skills will be learned in the primary school, it will not increase the number of main subjects and school hours. To illustrate this idea, Al-Azhar elementary school in Jakarta nowadays already has IT extracurricular for its students. These skills do not become main subjects in Al-Azhar, so it do not expense other basic skills.
In conclusion, we do not agree if IT skills that are being learned need to cost more than basic skills. Because the other subjects are also essential, it can be an extracurricular subject instead of sacrificing other subjects. I suggest to make IT skill become an optional subject.
