In recent years, the time spent by youngsters watching television has increased compared to the past, resulting in the reduction of their activity levels. There are some clear reasons for this trend, I believe that a number of measures can be proposed to resolve the issue.
Turning to causes initially, the major contributing factor to the increased television consumption by children is the lack of parents control. Nowadays, due to the fact that the world has become increasingly competitive, people have to work more hours than in the past in order to be able to provide themselves and their offspring with appropriate living conditions. This, in turn, led to the fact that adults have no time to supervise their children, and therefore, they leave them in front of a television, ensuring they will not be disturbed while they are working. This was not the case in the past. Another reason is recent advancements in technology, particularly in the animation industry. In other words, with the advancement of animated movies or cartoons, there are various types of cartoons that can appeal to all palates, including children’s attention. It is apparent that modern cartoons are superior to past ones in quality and diversity, which is why children nowadays find TV to be attractive.
Many children are now leading more inactive lifestyles owing to television than it was in the past and I suppose, this problem can be solved by taking several actions. First of all, parents should prioritize their children over work and monitor their actions. This may seem challenging since working is necessary if they want their offspring to live a better life. However, as technology has developed, adults can limit the time their children allocate to watching television by using some specific features of these devices. For instance, in many technological devices, including TV, there are special settings called ‘children mode’, with the help of that feature adults can give their children access to TV for a limited amount of time. Furthermore, encouraging youngsters to play sports or do outdoor activities might be a solution as well. Parents’, kindergarten assistants’, and school teachers’ role to play in this process is essential. They should find interactive and active ways of spending their time, for example, if there is more than one kid, adults should make them play a see-saw game.
In conclusion, the growing tendency towards watching TV by young minds and their inactive lifestyles caused by this are primarily a result of insufficient parents’ monitoring and improvements in technology and in my view, the role of all adults, surrounding a child, in encountering this situation is crucial.
