It is claimed that the most dangerous threat to our life on earth is climate change. This essay will discuss that this statement is not accurate because change in climate could be tackled using technology. However, there are other serious threats to human civilization like moral degradation and consumerism.
Although climate change has happened on our planet and it is becoming more and more alarming, the detrimental effects could be prevented by utilising technology. It is possible to make use of some innovative equipment to help people reduce the destructive impact of climate change. From the simplest thing such as sorting the trash in different bins, to using special machines to do weather engineering. For instance, in Jakarta, Indonesia, the government often did weather engineering when there were massive floods across the region, so that there would be no rain at least until the water was drained.
However, there are other serious threats to mankind that could harm people’s lives. Moral degradation has become more and more evident, people are more selfish and willing to do anything to satisfy their ego. This could lead further into many crimes, corruption, and war. People want to get what they want, no matter what. Additionally, consumerism has also quietly destroyed human lives by making people more greedy, wanting more unnecessary goods, which could result in many people burdened by huge debt. Take a murder case in Surabaya, Indonesia as an example, where the culprit was a debt collector who killed his customer because they failed to pay the loan.
In conclusion, climate change is a harmful threat to people’s lives on earth, but it is not the most dangerous thing that might affect humans. Moral degradation is a destructive thing and consumerism is also a serious threat that could deteriorate humans’ lives.
