With the rising demand for higher qualifications and the competitive job market, it has become increasingly common for school graduates to pursue university education. While this trend can be attributed to a combination of practical and emotional factors, I believe it largely represents a positive development.
The strong competition for university education is influenced by both practical and emotional considerations. From a practical perspective, the cost of living has surged due to high inflation and tax rates, making it increasingly difficult for individuals to afford basic necessities such as food, housing, and utilities, let alone maintain a comfortable lifestyle. In response to these financial burdens, it makes sense for individuals to seek higher education in order to enhance their earning potential. A good case in point is my home country of Uzbekistan, where many individuals enter universities in search of lucrative job opportunities.
Emotionally, the glorification of achievement and success has contributed to intense competition for university education. The easy access to online resources and the influence of social media have fostered a culture of comparison and competition, leading parents to exert pressure on their children’s university choices. In response to these elevated expectations, individuals often feel compelled to strengthen their academic and extracurricular profiles to remain competitive.
