In today’s contemporary era, many societies view competitiveness as a fundamental quality that drives us to achieve our goals. In this context, I will discuss the advantages and disadvantages of competition and share my personal viewpoint.
On one hand, working in a competitive environment encourages us to step out of our comfort zones. We are compelled to give our best efforts to prove ourselves and learn from others. Moreover, experiencing failure can serve as motivation to improve and try again. A prime example of this is the spirit of competition in sports, which provides us with thrilling and intense experiences. However, excessive competitiveness can also lead to numerous downsides for individuals. Many people may disregard the feelings of others, focusing solely on their own objectives. Some even resort to deceitful methods to achieve their goals, which can have adverse consequences and undermine trust. Additionally, overly competitive individuals often experience jealousy regarding others’ achievements and find themselves constantly comparing their success to that of others, leading to self-doubt.
From my perspective, competition has a significant impact on our lives. In the workplace, for example, competition fosters creativity, boosts productivity, and enhances the quality of work. Nowadays, many companies establish individual sales targets and offer incentives, underscoring the importance of healthy competition. Furthermore, fueled by a strong desire to showcase their abilities, many individuals are motivated to continually improve, hone their skills, and acquire knowledge in various fields to seize new opportunities.
In general, everything has its pros and cons. Nevertheless, I believe that competitiveness is an essential quality for individuals to achieve their goals, provided that they can find a balance between healthy rivalry and excessive competitiveness.
